Lauren – A little miracle – Vancouver baby and family lifestyle portraits

When Lauren was 6 month old, I was scheduled to shoot some pictures of her. However, the day before the shoot, Lauren’s mom Amanda texted me to say that we’d have to postpone because Lauren was sick. Later that night I received another text from Amanda asking for prayer for Lauren. While in the waiting room of the ER at Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Lauren’s heart stopped! It turns out Lauren has a rare heart defect.

And it’s only by a miracle that it stopped while in one of the most equipped facilities to take care of Lauren

What happened next, was months in the hospital, with multiple heart surgeries from Lauren, along with stretching, testing, and growing Lauren’s family’s faith and endurance. You can read all her story from her mom here: Focusing on Miracles

Vancouver Fall Family Photography – Trout Lake

This family happens to be my husband’s cousin Jenny, her husband Steeve, and the 3 rascals! They are our only other family in Vancouver (everyone else is in Ontario), and I love these guys!

Sometimes it can actually be more difficult to photograph your family, especially when it comes to kids who know you really well. I find that kids that don’t know you, have a certain level of respect. With these 3, I had them running around, and running away, and sticking out their tongues… it was all I could do to have them stand still for 3 seconds to snap a quick shot! Then we had a leaf throwing fiasco and the little one got upset because “everyone was throwing the leaves at me!”… and that was all she wrote!! Not another smile until she was back in the car on the way home.

But it was alright because I still got some fantastic shots in beautiful light!! The key was bribes and encouraging a couple of the silly pictures with the tongues out, etc. (They don’t need to know that you’ll never deliver those!! And Mom & Dad eventually catch on to what you’re doing)

Autumn, dusk and Trout Lake definitely make a beautiful combination!!

Fort Langley Fall Family Portraits – Vancouver Family Photographer

I’ve been taking quite a few photos of Desiree this past year (all centred around her baby Harrison) and she was asked by her mom to ask me to take some photos of their family. And I said I was happy to!

I’ve lived in the Vancouver area for just over 6 years now, and this was my very first time going to Fort Langley. Glover Road is probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!

So early November, I’m driving to Fort Langley, with the windshield wipers going full tilt, and praying for the rain to stop, when Desiree texts me (yes I read a text while driving….) to let me know it’s NOT raining in Fort Langley! It was such an amazingly pleasant surprise!

So we went down to the river, where there were beautiful trees and a gorgeous misty fog on the water, and got some great shots! (I hope that the 4 other photographers that came and left while we were there got some great shots as well!)
