Thanks to my parents making sure I spent ample amounts of time outdoors and teaching me that everything in the universe was created by God (and with a little help from my David Suzuki’s “Looking At…” children series), I was instilled with a strong sense of being responsible for looking after the environment, and therefore all the creatures that are in it.

Jamie and I both feel strongly about bringing these beliefs into our business. We’ve committed to running an environmentally friend photography and videography studio.

Here are some of the ways that we’re cutting down our carbon footprint:

Car-sharing

By using Modo the car co-op and Zip car, we’re able to use a car only when we need to get to shoots. The remainder of the time we use transit & walk. It cuts down on business costs, fuel consumption, and is super convenient!

Online contracts & cloud based business management

We have radically minimized our paper usage by switching completely to an online cloud-based client management system and accounting system. What little paper we do use is all recycled.

Green Web Hosting

Thanks to Hostpapa, which is also a Canadian company, we can run our website servers off of their solar and wind power system, which we think is just awesome!!

Eco-friendly/recycled delivery products

We’ve done extensive research to find the best product vendors for us, and making sure they fit a certain criteria, which is: the look and quality must match our branding, it must be recycled or eco-friendly, and if they’re local even better.

  • Recycled paper for our business cards from Jukebox Printing
  • Shipping supplies from Globe Guard Products
  • Photo Albums and DVD cases and boxes from Loktah which are beautiful & made from natural materials.
  • Supplies that make your package look super cute from Nashville Wraps

Transitioning to USB flash drives

If you’ve been living under a rock, this may comes as a total surprise to you, but DVDs are going the way of the VHS! Pretty soon they’ll be just as obsolete. If you’re like us, you haven’t watched a DVD in quite some time, and you watch everything on Netflix, you’ve downloaded it, or on iTunes.

Starting in 2014, we’re delivering all our photography and videography on USB, and thanks to PromoKeyChain.com, which has a loaction in Port Coquitlam, we’ve found some super unique and eco-friendly USB flash drives for you!

DVDs are still an option (for the not-so-tech-savvy), but they’re discouraged, because the advantages of USBs are too good, and here’s why:

  • Flash drive memory technology uses less than 1% of the power consumed by conventional CD & DVD-ROMs, when transferring the same amount of data. The energy required to burn information onto a DVD can use as much as 100 times the amount of energy to load the same information onto a USB flash drive.
  • The flash drive we’ve chosen uses a RoHS construction to remove hazardous materials from the products
  • They’re made with made with recycled materials, renewable woods, and (PLA) biodegradable thermoplastic
  • And using USBs reduces packaging

We’re super excited to be one of the few photography companies within the Vancouver Lower Mainland that has committed to being green. If you’re a bride that is also committed to being green, tell us about your Eco-friendly wedding initiatives, and you may qualify for a 10% discount off your wedding photo & video package!
