DIY Traditional Scottish Wedding in quaint Fort Langley

Elizabeth and Kerry both come from Scottish backgrounds, and added a lot of Scottish traditions to their intimate family focused wedding.

They had their ceremony in the incredibly quaint St. Andrew’s Fort Langley United Church.

If you’re thinking about having your ceremony, keep in mind that it is VERY small inside, and there is little to no space for photographers/videographers. The staff at St. Andrew’s are also quite strict about no flash photography, and that the photographer has to stay in one spot.

During the ceremony they had a traditional Hand Fasting ceremony. Each of the grandparents tied a ribbon of their tartan around the couple’s hands. This symbolizes the couple’s union, and also gave rise to the phrase to ‘tie the knot’.

At the end of the ceremony, Elizabeth’s grandfather surprised the couple by getting a bag piper who “Piped” the couple out of the church, which is another Scottish tradition.

The Reception was at the Fort Langley Golf Club, and all the decor was created by the bride, friends and family. They had a set of Jenga blocks that wedding guests wrote notes and advice to the couple on. The cake was made a family friend, and centrepieces were handmade paper flowers.
